In 2014 WAM did a collaboration with Progress Theatre Reading centred around a play by Juliet Aykroyd called 'Darwin and FitzRoy' about Robert FitzRoy, Captain of the Beagle and Charles Darwin, and their relationship forged on their five-year voyage together on the Beagle.
As part of that event, I thought I'd put together a programme of music centred on seafaring, which in Captain FitzRoy's time was something else entirely from what we might think seafaring is now, in our age of megatankers, sports yachts and massive cruise liners.
I perform this programme in collaboration with an exceptional guitarist, Gerard Cousins, who has adapted much of the music to his instrument and arranged an accompaniment for the sea shanties that close the concert.
The programme was designed to be performed before the performance of the play, so it's 45 mins long. But it can be extended to fill a whole evening.
